Most of the people protesting want to stop supporting companies that help Israel and the fighting in Gaza.
On Wednesday at UCLA, people were told to leave by the loudspeaker because they might get in trouble. Some of the protesters didn’t leave and kept chanting in support of Palestine.
UCLA said that on Thursday and Friday, they will have fewer things happening on campus and all classes will be taught online.
The leader of California was unhappy that the police didn’t come quickly to stop a fight at UCLA. Some people who support Israel hurt some people who support Palestine, and the police didn’t show up until later.
The person who speaks for Governor Gavin Newsom said it was not okay that the police didn’t help right away.
Police officers removed people who were supporting Palestine from Columbia University.
State officials and university leaders say security guards were quickly sent to the pro-Palestinian camp on Dickson Plaza after fights started on Tuesday night. Some people who saw what happened said the guards took longer than they should have to get there, and there was a short time when no one was there to help.
Trump said that protests on college campuses are similar to the riots that happened on January 6th, while Biden is working to stop fighting in Gaza to avoid criticism.
The police just stayed on the grass and wouldn’t move even though we asked them for help, said UC Divest at LA, a group at the camp.
The people who were upset about what happened started to go home two hours after it happened, and the police took charge on Wednesday.
Governor Newsom said that it’s not okay to be violent or break the law when speaking out about things you believe in.
He said that the people who did something wrong should be punished, like going to jail or getting kicked out of school. The police at UCLA were outnumbered by the crowd so they had to leave.
The police needed extra help from other places like California and Los Angeles to fix the problem, and it took them three hours to make things better.
Columbia University stopped some students from protesting.
There was a big argument at a popular university in the US late at night. It happened right after the police in New York made student protesters leave a building at Columbia University.
The people at Columbia are upset about what is happening in Gaza and are marching to show their feelings. Now, other schools are also having marches because they saw what Columbia did.
Many people are joining together to show they are unhappy with schools that support Israel and companies that benefit from the war there. They want the schools to stop giving them money.
The people in charge of the school said they had a lot of security around, but they didn’t want to stop the mostly peaceful protests. A big group supporting Israel came to campus in black clothes and white masks and tried to take down the barriers.
The people wearing masks hit the campers with sticks and bats, sprayed them with smelly spray, and ripped down their signs.
People in charge of colleges are feeling more and more pressure to stop protests supporting Palestinians because these protests are happening in more and more places across the country.
Children, some people were protesting at Columbia University because they support the people of Palestine. The Mayor of New York City said that some of the people causing trouble were not from the university, they came from outside.
